Summer is here! The moose and bear have been making appearances in town, and the rental companies are open and ready for boating, biking, horseback riding, and more. This month sees the opening of Grand Lake’s Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre, our first Arts & Crafts Fair of the year, and a variety of classes and events in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Rotary Club of Grand Lake Bingo is back, and will be held at the Louie Heckert Pavilion in Town Park every Friday and Saturday from 7:30-9pm. Each card is $3 and plays 12 games. Join the fun and a chance to win!

The Grand Lake Area Arts and Crafts Festival will be held Saturday, June 9th from 10am-5pm, and Sunday, June 10th from 10am-4pm. View and purchase unique, handmade crafts and goods made by local artisans in beautiful Grand Lake Town Park. If you’re a birder or are new to birding, join us at the Kawuneeche Visitor’s Center on June 16th from 8am-4pm to learn about the Birds of the Kawuneeche Valley. Beginning with a brief indoor session, the remainder of the day will be spent outdoors in breathtaking Rocky Mountain National Park where you will learn to identify birds by sight and voice, and learn about their natural history. Occurring at a time of year where woodpeckers, bluebirds, swallows and wrens are nesting, this event will please attendees of all ages. The group will break for lunch at a restaurant in Grand Lake and resume field explorations in the afternoon. Cost is $80 per adult ages 16 and older. Learn about Boating History in Grand Lake on June 20th from 7-9pm. This FREE presentation will be held at the Community House in Grand Lake. Ken Fucik, of the Rocky Mountain Boat School, will entertain and enlighten you with the history of boats and boating in Grand Lake, and treats will be served! 

East Across the Divide: A Trail Ridge Road Bus Adventure is a tour across Rocky Mountain National Park. This tour will be held twice this month, June 23rd and 30th, from 9am-3:30pm with several additional opportunities to participate in this tour again this summer. Meet at the Grand Lake Chamber of Commerce and hop on the bus as it takes you through beautiful scenery, wildlife and the history of the Park. A professional guide will be there to answer questions and share information about local flora, fauna and geology. Picture-taking and exploration opportunities will be provided at multiple pull-off stops such as the Holzwarth Historic Site, Milner Pass and the Continental Divide, the Alpine Visitor Center, the Forest Canyon Overlook, Lava Cliffs and more. The first ever Spirit Polar Plunge benefitting Cancer Related Services through Taking Steps for Cancer will be held on June 24th. Join us at Western Riviera’a Lakeside Venue for the pre-plunge party from 12-3pm. Martin & Taylor will provide live music, and food will be provided by Bare Bones BBQ. Admission to the party is $40 with the plunge or $50 without the plunge. If you can’t make it to the party, you can still support the event and take the plunge from 3-4pm. Walk-in registration ($30 for the plunge only, $35 for “Chickens”) and pre-registration ($25 for the plunge only, $30 for “Chickens”) check-in begins at 1pm at the Grand Lake Town Beach. Learn about the Geology of the Western Slope at the Alpine Visitor’s Center in Rocky Mountain National Park on June 30th from 8:30am-4:30pm. See some of the oldest rocks in Colorado, and learn how geologists interpret the nature and history of the rocks including the processes that created and formed them. From metamorphism to tectonic forces, discover how the Rocky Mountains have changed over the years to become the wondrous peaks they are today! The Independent Sports Club will host the Annual State Chili Cook Off again this year in Grand Lake Town Park on Saturday, June 30th from 10am-4pm.
